Using Music Therapy to Enhance Social Interaction Skills in Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Case Study)
Communication and social interaction deficits are crucial characteristics associated with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), affecting their integration into society. Working with these individuals requires flexible and integrated therapeutic approaches that consider each person's needs and their environment. Various training programs have emerged aiming to improve communication and social interaction issues, drawing upon different theoretical frameworks.
The purpose of this case study was to explore the effectiveness of a training program utilizing music therapy to enhance communication and social interaction skills for a student with ASD. The program sessions were designed based on practical principles of music therapy techniques, totaling 40 individual sessions, twice a week, with each session lasting 20-30 minutes. Each session included: general goal, musical goal, non-musical goal, activity, procedures, and data collection.

4. Based on the conclusions of this case study, it was verified that the use of music therapy has shown improvement in communication skills, individual attention span, spontaneity, and adaptive behaviors such as improved sitting. This result indicates that music therapy can be a useful strategy for enhancing communication and social interaction for individuals with ASD.
