The Assessment and Treatment of Severe Challenging Behavior

Severe behavioral challenges occur in as many as 40-60% of the children with ASD. These challenges that include aggression, self0injury, and property destruction cause physical harm and emotional harm, interfere with education, prevent socialization, and require specialized knowledge to treat. For the past 30 year in ABA, a functional approach to the assessment and treatment of these destructive behaviors has shown to be the most efficient and effective model to reduce or eliminate these behaviors. This approach will be detailed.
The environmental set up for severe behavior services, with emphasis on assessments, interventions, data collection and data-based decisions, and treatment integrity data.
